I PRESENT
MUSIC

What — I post about new song and its cover every week and talk about what I love about it.

Roles — Writer & Curator

Supervision — Self Directed

Music’s always been my best friend. It’s been there through the highs, the lows, and everything in between shaping my moods, grounding me, pulling me forward. This blog is a space to reflect on that connection.

I write about what I’m listening to, how it makes me feel, and the visuals that come with it especially album covers. I’ve always been drawn to how music looks as much as how it sounds. The packaging, the typography, the texture of a sleeve it all adds to the story. This page is part journal, part tribute, part design archive for the albums that stick with me.

Let’s start off saying I am no writer, by any means.

Mariella, By Khruangbin, Leon Bridges I thought this would be the perfect first song, given that it’s my most-played and favorite track of all time at least for now. I first heard it in 2022, entering my first year of college while living in Austin, TX, and going to school at St. Edward’s University. My music taste was growing fast back then, as I was being introduced to so many different people and styles.

After a long day doing God knows what, it was probably late at night and I was on my way home from my brother’s apartment in West Campus at the University of Texas. It wasn’t the happiest night  I was going through a tough time trying to make new connections at this brand-new school in a brand new city. I can’t remember exactly how the song started playing, but it came on in my car and my stereo, by default, is always as loud as it can possibly be.

“Mariella” started playing. Within the first five seconds, I was like whoa… who is this? That guitar was beautiful. I didn’t even care to look at my phone to see what was playing it had me so in the moment. I just sat there, listening. For those few minutes, the world completely stopped. It made me forget everything. And now, every time I listen to that track from Leon’s vocals to Khruangbin instrumentals that moment plays back in my head. It’s one of those songs I could hear 100 times and never get sick of.

Since then, Khruangbin has become my favorite band. I love every single one of their songs. They don’t miss. I’m at bliss in their whole discography.

Aaron Lowell Denton — funny enough, one of the sickest designers out there right now. His work has this way of feeling retro and modern at the same time it’s like a time machine with perfect color theory. Maybe he’s not one of my biggest influences right now in my career, but that doesn’t mean I’m not constantly impressed. Every piece he puts out feels considered, sharp, and just plain cool. The Texas Moon cover? It's one of those designs that just gets it. The balance, the texture, the palette all of it feels effortless but so dialed in. He’s one of those designers where you see the work before you even need to check the name, and you just know it’s him.
